Commander's Corner

May is my birth month and even with life’s stresses, I have so much to be grateful for. I have been proud to serve you over this term. It’s an honor to serve those who have served, and I will continue to do so, to the best of my ability.

We have an election coming up and I’d like to ask that you consider coming out and voting. We have two people running for each Commander seat. We have an abundance of people running for four Executive Committee Seats. We also have six people running for three seats on the Board of Trustees. Finally, we have people looking to be delegates to the Department (State) convention. Can we please do ALL of them the honor of coming out to vote, this coming Monday? Polls are open from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

In other news, I went to the Los Angeles Air Force Base to get my hairs cut. To my surprise, they were able to give a military cut. Dave Austin commented that they are skilled with anything involving a chair. Semper Fi, Devil Dog.

What this brings me to is that if you have ANY disability rating from the VA, you can go onto military bases. You’ll need your VA card to do so. Even if you don’t have a rating, you can shop the Exchange online. These are the kinds of benefits that I wished we had someone to tell you about each month. Besides voting, I’m going to ask people to consider taking on appointed positions. Whoever the new Commander is, is going to have appointed positions to fill. The Post Service Officer has the opportunity to share this kind of information with the members at meetings, in the newsletter, and during one-on-one communication.

Of course, Service Officer isn’t the only appointed position available. After the election, I’ll post all of the appointed positions and you can reach out to the Commander to volunteer.

Before we get there, we do have an election on Monday, 15May 1600-2000 (4:00 pm to 8:00 pm).  Please show up and vote.
