Chaplain's Corner
Family,
I want to tell you it is not too late.
It's not too late for forgiveness from what you've done, to forgive others, for starting over, for turning your life around, and for making changes. It's never too late to talk to, hear, and listen to God.
It's not too late.
That is true for any time, but right now is a significant time of opportunity if you're looking for a reason or starting point.
At sunset on Sunday, September 25, Rosh Hashanah began, which is celebrated in Judaism, and observed by many Christians, as the "head of the year" or new year. This year, it was the start of Hebrew year 5783. Rosh Hashanah is one of the High Holy Days (holiest of days) in the Hebrew calendar. It is also referred to as the Feast of Trumpets and is a time to remember what God has done. Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of a time period called the 10 Days of Awe, which is a holy time of reflection, change, and repentance. This holy time period concludes with Yom Kippur, which is the Day of Atonement. Yom Kippur is the other of the High Holy Days, and the holiest day of the year in the Hebrew calendar.
Whether you celebrate or observe Rosh Hashanah and this holy time period, it is a good time to start over, to re-examine, to correct, and to begin a new chapter or season. We are still in the Days of Awe, and Yom Kippur begins on Tuesday, October 4 at sunset, concluding Wednesday, October 5 at sundown. It is a great time for a new beginning.
It's not too late. If you have been waiting for the right time, or for someone to tell you you can- you can right now!
Shana tovah (good year) to all!
Post Everlasting
We had a lovely memorial service for Past Commander and friend to many, Bill McTaggart, this weekend. Simone Lara designed a beautiful program outline card, which gives an idea how the program went:
Thank you to everyone who came out to honor Bill, and to everyone who helped make this memorial happen.
I want to give a special thank you to Melissa Card and the Auxiliary, Jon Jeffrey Jackman and the Sons, Simone Lara, Karl Risinger, Milan Morgan, Rocio Palmero, Liza Burns, Quinton Farina, Jeanette Estem, Brian Binkley, Josh Epstein, and Jordan of our maintenance team, all of whom this absolutely would not have been possible without their help in preparing beforehand, and helping put it on the day of. These people made this event happen. I am forever grateful for all they did for this, and all they do all of the time.
I also want to thank the US Army 63rd Readiness Division for a beautiful honor guard, Bill Churchville for playing TAPS, Harry Farar for playing the bagpipes, Jeff Daly, and the McTaggart family for what they did including the beautiful bio written and printed by Bill's daughter in law that Jeff read at the memorial, to make this day special.
Please continue to keep the family and all those who loved Bill in your thoughts and prayers.
Prayer Requests
Please continue to pray for our members who may have silent or anonymous prayer requests, as well as those who may be mourning or suffering at this time. We have lost several members of our post recently- please continue to keep their families and loved ones in your prayers, and reach out to check on them if you can.
Prayer is powerful and God hears!
As always, if you need prayer or support, please know there are several ways to reach your chaplain. There is a prayer request form you can fill out here: https://form.jotform.com/ChaplainAL43/prayerrequest
You can input as little or as much information as you are comfortable with.
You can also reach out directly to chaplain@post43.org if you'd rather do that.
There are also chaplains for the sons, auxiliary, and riders that are available as well.
If you want to pray but are not sure how to pray, please reach out too. We are happy to guide you to pray alone also!
It's ok to not be ok. You are not alone.
The Suicide and Crisis Hotline is also available 24/7: dial or text 988
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13
May peace and comfort surround you. May you and your families be well physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. May God make His presence and love felt in your life, now and always. Shalom, and many blessings to you all!
Blessings,
Your Chaplain, Donna Callaway and Assistant Chaplain, Rocio Palmero
