COMMANDER'S CORNER
TRAVEL
I was disappointed to miss the social meeting in July due to business travel but was very excited that for only the third time in our Post’s history, we had a female member wielding the gavel. 1st Vice Commander Monica Nichelson did an excellent job, and so did the rest of the leadership team.
Whenever I travel, I always try to visit an American Legion Post, and this week I was able to see two Posts, and they didn’t disappoint. I had a great time at Post 43 in Fort Mill, SC, and Post 321 in Huntersville, NC. Fantastic people, and I met so many new friends. As soon as they realize you are a member of another Post, they want to give you a tour, introduce you to everyone, and try to buy you a drink.
DOCENT PROGRAM
I want to officially announce the Post 43 Docent Program!
Over the next few weeks, we will train a small group to give tours in the next few weeks, and you can be part of it! This has been discussed for years, and we finally ran out of excuses, so let’s do it! Please send me an email expressing your interest in this program.
WORK DAY - 30JULY23
We need you to come to the Post on the 30th of July @ 1000! We have a big volunteer day planned with lots of activities and need your help. We will dispose of clutter around the Post and have a volunteer work party to help clean the grounds and organize the boiler room. Our maintenance team uses the boiler room to store materials to maintain the Post, and it really needs some TLC.
We will also have a small rummage sale in front of the Post if you would like to bring some small items to try to sell or give away. A rummage sale was done a few years ago, and from what I hear, it was a lot of fun, so we will try to do it again and advertise it to the community. We will also have a membership table to tell community visitors what our organization is about.
COMMANDER’S BALL
I have been looking forward to the Commander’s Ball on August 12th for months. This event is sure to sell out, so get your tickets now! A wonderful evening with great music, excellent food, and that dancing stuff will be had! We will also dress up a little if it is easy to do, enjoy each other’s company, and recognize some of our members and community leaders.
BUSINESS MEETING - 24JULY23
I look forward to seeing you at the Business Meeting on the 24 of July. We have many important agenda items to vote on, including the budget for the next six months. There are lots of things going on, and I will give the next operational update the week after this meeting.
Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence In All We Do.
