Chaplains Corner - Today Is A New Day
Today is a new day. Let me say that again- today is a new day.
Whatever happened yesterday-or even an hour or minute ago- is over. You have a fresh start, fresh hope, a fresh reason to find joy, a new chance to turn things around, right now, today, in this moment. And you have that every day.
God tells us that His mercies are new every morning:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Each day is a day the Lord has made and a reason for joy:
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Even if you’ve been in a dark place, a wilderness, a desert- God can make a way, and can make rivers even in the most dry places; and bring light even in the darkest places:
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Every day, every moment, is a chance to turn things around; to turn our heart to God and to make changes for good:
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
No matter what yesterday looked like, you have today. God is right there each moment to give you new hope, joy, mercy, and turn things around.
Here is a prayer you can pray for a new day/moment. You can pray this or make it your own.
Prayer:
God, Lord of all creation and all things, I come before you today, thanking you for this new day, for this new moment. As I begin this day/moment, refresh me and help me remember that your mercies are new today and that they never fail, no matter what has happened or what I have done. Open my eyes and heart to see that today is a new reason for joy and hope. Show me that you can do a new thing today- that you can bring rivers of Your living water to the dry places, and Your light to the dark places; that you can do a new thing even where it looks impossible. Help me to be humble and to turn away from anything that is not good in your sight, whether it’s been done knowingly or unknowingly. Help me to seek You God, to see your truth, and to see and feel Your presence in this new day/moment. Thank you Lord, for this new day, for this new moment, for this new chance. Help me to use every moment in the best way possible, whether that’s to rest, to spend time with loved ones or new people, to keep going with a current project or role or start a new one, or whatever else that may look like. Lead me along the way today, in every moment. And always, help me to remember the joy and hope of a new day/moment. In Your Mighty and unmatched Name I pray, amen.

Praying for each of you, for our leadership, and for us as a community. May God make His presence known in your personal lives, in our post, and in our community, and may His shalom, love, and joy be felt in ways like never before. May He heal and protect you mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. I pray for God’s revival in each person and for us as a community. In His mighty, precious, and unmatched Name we pray.
