Chaplains Corner
Have you ever found yourself having a day, or in a situation, that just feels impossible? And you look around to see where you help is, where God is, but it looks like you’re all alone, with no help anywhere to be found?
Those days and times happen. When I had a day like that recently, a story from scripture came to mind:
“When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha. “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.”
2 Kings 6:15-17 NLT

In their situation, it looked like there was no help, and no way out, until Elisha prayed and the young man’s eyes were opened to see the help surrounding them.
This truth is the same for us. We are not alone. We are not fighting our battle alone, or without help.
He promises to never leave or forsake us in several places throughout the Bible. This is a promise! Here is one of those verses:
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8
When you feel discouraged, and like there’s no help, remember God’s promise. He will not leave or forsake you!
Like Elisha prayed for the young man that we read about in 2 Kings, I pray that your eyes are opened to the help surrounding you, that you see God’s presence in the midst of your tough day, your storm, your circumstance- especially if it looks like there’s no way to overcome what you’re going through. I pray that you see God and the help He sends all around you, even on the good days and in the best times of your life. He will never leave you or forsake you, and He is ever present. Your help comes from the Lord, and He is always by your side, in every circumstance, on every day, every moment.
“I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.”
