Commander's Time

All Hands on Deck Request

I'm here to remind you about a very important meeting. This is more than a simple update on El Centro. We will be asking the membership for guidance on the direction that we take with respect to this property. If you think you already know how you want to vote, please note that there is newer information on both the "Pursue Selling" and the "Keep Leasing" sides of the thing.

As we've heard in discussions, financials aren't the only consideration. For example, there is talk of legacy, which is an important consideration. Interestingly there is more than one perspective on how best to address our legacy.

Another thing that I've been hearing is that we don't know that someone in the future won't just squander all of the money. There are some built-in protections, like no one can just unilaterally sell the building. That requires a 2/3 vote of the membership.

On the leasing side, people have questions, too. How can we get closer to market, so that this property pays our bills?

I urge everyone to attend the meeting this coming Monday to decide how we are going to honor our past and how we are going to move forward.

I am attaching a deck here with the information you will hear/see on Monday. It's not incredibly long, but it is helpful to get caught up on the big picture. Details are important, and those will be discussed in the meeting that I'm hopeful will be populated with many of you.

It's important to note that I communicate with people who want to sell and people who don't want to sell. What I don't hear from any of them is any poor intentions. They ALL want what's best for the Post, so I'm hopeful that discussion will discuss the business and not get personal. I'm grateful for the hours our volunteers on the committee put into this to present you with what they believe are the best options in both the Sell and Don't Sell scenarios. It is up to all of us, collectively (except for the voteless Commander) to decide what direction we want to go.
