Commander's Time

Thank you!

Hello 43!

As we end Veterans Weekend, I look back on a week that was exciting and jammed packed to say the least.

It started with an historic vote at the Post where we poised ourselves to be the flagship post in the entire organization

for the next 100 years and beyond. I thank Bryon Smith and team for continually working on that to meet member

demands and putting up with my questions/comments/suggestion. Now comes the hard work, for all of us. It’s not just

about finding the best ways to maximize returns on our money. It’s also about returning maximum focus on our Legion

mission. We’ll be looking an all hands-on-deck effort, and hopefully that includes you. We already have things going and

planned including:

 Karen Vasquez bringing back Art Deco Comedy Hour.

 Nick Papadakis continues to bring in musical entertainment.

 Jennifer Brofer already has our next blood drive planned.

 We have several Pinups For Vets ambassadors out doing visits, including recently at the West LA VA Hospital.

 2 nd Vice Commander Dennis Kee and Adjutant Josh Epstein are planning Buddy Check calling parties (please volunteer) and a New Member Orientation (please attend).

 I’m asking Simone Silva (Community Outreach) along with Donna Callaway and Rocio Palmero (Chaplains) to find

opportunities to volunteer in the community.

 2 nd Vice Commander Karl Rising has been organizing the outings. Past Commander Pete Lisowski made TWO LA

Kings games available to members. There were games at USC and UCLA where Past Commander Mike Hjelmstad

was recognized for his service.

 Past Commander Jeric Wilhelmson is putting together the next Veteran Made Film Competition.

We do have work ahead of us, but I hope you enjoyed Veterans Day, which was really a Veterans Week for many of us. I

was busy with Legion business all week.
