POST NEWS
New Post Honor Guard Forming Up: Get Involved!
From Honor Guard Committee Chair Nelson Rockford:
Fellow Legionnaires, I need your help. I have been tasked with organizing an Honor Guard Team to represent Hollywood Post 43. We have been working on this, behind the scenes, for quite a while. Now we finally have the approval and funding! I am looking for a few sharp individuals to step up and join our team. I served as Firing Party Commander with the Blue Eagles Honor Guard at the Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base, California. You needn't have experience ..... I can teach you. However, I do expect candidates to be serious, motivated, dedicated, clean-cut and professional. "Military Bearing" is a concept that I take very seriously. Post 43 will provide new dress blue uniforms, rifles and gear. Members will be allowed to wear their service medals, ribbons and badges on the coat. We will perform in parades, funerals, demonstrations, ceremonies and competitions around L.A. and California ..... and eventually the rest of the country.
Please don't hesitate to call me at 818-414-1975 or nelsonrockford@gmail.com if you're interested.
Cheers!
Memorial Day Observance Events This Weekend
Memorial Day observance events begin this weekend. On Saturday, once again, hundreds of scouts of all stripes will descend upon the Los Angeles National Cemetery for an awe-inspiring event: placing American flags on 85,000 graves of U.S. servicemembers buried there. Each name is read and a salute rendered as the flag is placed -- an emotional and inspiring tribute of remembrance. Post 43 member and Boy Scouts Committee chair, Keith Smith has led this amazing operation for several years at the cemetery, and it is a sight to behold. Get down there on Saturday morning to witness it firsthand, if you can. Event starts at 8 a.m.
The annual Memorial Day ceremony will take place at the Los Angeles National Cemetery, 950 South Sepulveda Blvd. in West L.A. at 10 a.m on Monday. At 1 p.m., a brief and solemn remembrance ceremony and roll call of the deceased will be held at Hollywood Post 43. Lunch will be served immediately afterward.
