Hollywood Legion Theater Renovation Update
The Legion Theater Committee unveiled nonzero/architecture's latest 3D renderings of the new Hollywood Legion Theater auditorium Feb. 28. These are the most detailed illustrations yet of Post 43's ambitious plan for a 475-seat, state-of-the-art film and digital cinema in the historic auditorium space. The design features new acoustic treatments that will make our theater one of the highest quality acoustic experiences in Hollywood, while keeping in line with the historic design scheme. The auditorium originally featured bare concrete walls, which are very undesirable for amplified sound, particularly for cinema. New seating, floor treatment and lighting complete the design.
The architect's plans have been submitted to City of LA Department of Building & Safety for review. Initial feedback was positive. Demolition and clearing of the old boiler room will make way for new HVAC equipment that will keep audiences comfortable during screenings and other events. The auditorium has not had working heating or cooling for decades. LADWP is reviewing our request for additional power required. The post is working with L.A. City Councilmember David Ryu's senior planning staff to keep the city informed on the project and ensure the support of the various agencies. Pending final approvals and contractor selection, the work should begin next month.
