Commander Elect - Memorial Day and Installation

Memorial Day Observations

This solemn day started with the 1 st Vice Commander elect Monica Nichelson and I representing American Legion Post 43 and laying a wreath at LA National Cemetery Ceremony. It was amazing to see many Post 43 members in attendance or helping at this event. It really shows how involved our members are with the Veteran community and how they continue to serve. Please see some of the attached pictures of our members at Memorial Day events around the country.

At 1300 our ceremony at the Post started with posting of the colors, raising the garrison flag, memorial garden ceremony, proper disposal of the distressed flags and many other moving parts.

One of the proudest moments I had was meeting an Air Force General at the LA National ceremony and inviting him to speak at our Post less than an hour later. I called the office from my car and said scratch the part I was going to do for our ceremony and rearrange two or three others because I invited three speakers to come in that you don’t know about and weren’t planned. Janice Bowman and Josh Epstein said whatever you need we will make it happen. Support and trust doesn’t get any better than that.

Really want to thank all of our Post family members including our Auxiliary, Sons and Riders programs that helped spruce up and prepare the Post for Memorial Day as well as everyone that participated in the event or volunteered their time to support and make it happen.

Officer Installation

Look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it to the new officer installation at the Social Meeting on 5 June @ 1900. It is important that we support our new officers, meet them and spend time with them. There are lots of new ideas and there is a lot of excitement, and we need to keep this energy going as our new officers develop and execute their vision. In that effort I am also pushing committee volunteer and appointed position forms listed below.

Remember there is nothing that has already been done before and didn’t work. Variables are constantly changing. Just because an idea might not have worked the first time don’t ever let anyone tell you “we tried that before and it didn’t work” it might be different this time. If you have an idea, please document and present it and lets figure out if we can try it.

I spoke to the 1st Vice Commander elect Monica Nichelson and she is adamant about immediately continuing this effort and getting more volunteers to help.

Please reach out to her if you can help.
