Legion Highlights and Upcoming Events
Today is Purple Heart Day. On this day in On this day in 1782, Gen. George Washington created the "Badge for Military Merit," a decoration consisting of a purple, heart-shaped piece of silk, edged with a narrow binding of silver, with the word "Merit" stitched across the face in silver. The Order of the Purple Heart, the oldest American military decoration for military merit, is awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces who have been killed or wounded in action against an enemy. It is also awarded to soldiers who have suffered maltreatment as prisoners of war.

The House Committee is spearheading the renovation and beautification of our historic post clubhouse in anticipation of our new theater opening late this year and 100th anniversary in 2019.
We need your help. It is time to purge all non-essential items that have been warehoused here for nearly a century, and then clean those areas from 90 years of dust and dirt. And maybe get first dibs on deals on some interesting old stuff!
We will be staging a lot of items out on the front steps the afternoon before (Friday, August 11th). Saturday morning will be a big clean-out of all of the things that are getting trashed, that aren't worth selling in the yard sale.
As always, snacks, lunch and beverages will be provided.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR RANDY KAHN SATURDAY AT POST 43
Randall Otto Kahn (4/14/1948 - 7/18/2017) R.I.P.
JOIN US for celebration of life for Randy Kahn at Post 43 on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at noon.
Post 43 Judge Advocate, Past Executive Committee Member, and a dear friend, Randy passed on to "Post Everlasting" July 18, 2017. Randy was a lion of the post who lent his vast experience in a career in business, banking, and even acting to the stewardship of this post and especially the theater renovation project, in which he was an instrumental force. Randy was a kind, thoughtful patriot and good friend to veterans and Legionnaires. His contributions to the Hollywood Post are innumerable. He will be missed not only for his leadership and counsel, but especially for his friendship. Please RSVP if you plan to attend, so we may plan to have enough refreshments.

Post 43 is invited to partner with American Legion Sheriff's Star Post 309 for a Special Olympics fundraising event.
Since 1919, The American Legion has advocated on behalf of the nation's children by promising "A Square Deal for Every Child." Because of this promise, the Legion family has supported the Special Olympics through financial contributions and volunteer efforts, which has resulted in a successful relationship for more than 30 years.

Do you ride? Are you interested in community service and helping veterans? Post 43 is gauging interest from the membership to start a chapter of American Legion Riders in Hollywood.
